# Set up the DocuSign integration

> Connect DocuSign to Chamelio, choose which envelopes sync, and import your signed history.

For what the DocuSign integration does, see [DocuSign Integration](https://docs.chamelio.ai/guides/integrations/docusign.md).

## Video Walkthrough

## Prerequisites

* Admin access to your DocuSign account (for organization-level connection)
* A Chamelio account with Admin permission
* A defined filtering strategy for which DocuSign envelopes should sync to Chamelio

## Phase 1: Connect DocuSign to Chamelio

### Organization-Level Connection (Recommended)

**1. Go to Integrations**

Navigate to **Settings > Org Integrations** in Chamelio.

**2. Connect DocuSign**

On the **Docusign** card, click **Connect**.

**3. Authorize**

Complete the OAuth authorization flow using your DocuSign admin credentials.

### User-Level Connections (Optional)

After the org-level connection is established, individual users can add their own DocuSign connections via **Settings > My integrations**, then **Connect** on the **Docusign** card. This is useful for tracking personal signing activity or for users who sign documents directly through Chamelio.

In a flow's [Sign step](https://docs.chamelio.ai/features/flows/sign.md#who-sends-the-docusign-envelope), each envelope is sent from the DocuSign account of the person sending it, or of the flow's Global signing account if one is set. Anyone without their own user-level connection sends from the organization's connection, so signers see the name of whoever connected DocuSign at the organization level.

## Phase 2: Configure Document Filtering

Contact the Chamelio team to establish filtering rules. Three options are available:

> **Option 1: Email-Based Filtering**
>
> Filter by sender or recipient email addresses. Include or exclude specific emails. Best for organizations with clear email domain separation between legal and non-legal workflows.

> **Option 2: Custom Field Filtering (Recommended for Shared Accounts)**
>
> Create a custom envelope field in DocuSign named `Store in Smart Repository` with values `Yes` / `No`. Chamelio syncs only envelopes where the field equals `Yes`.
>
> Best for shared DocuSign accounts where multiple departments use the same instance. Give your Chamelio point of contact the field name, its possible values, and which value should trigger storing the contract.

> **Option 3: Custom Filtering Logic**
>
> For complex requirements, work with your Chamelio legal engineer to define custom logic - including multiple custom field conditions, recipient patterns, and template-based filtering.

## Phase 3: Historical Data Migration (Optional)

### Load Existing Signed Documents

Chamelio can import your historical DocuSign envelopes using the same filtering logic from Phase 2. This requires the admin-level DocuSign connection from Phase 1. Notify the Chamelio team to initiate the process.

### Selective Historical Import

For large DocuSign histories where you want to curate which legacy documents to import:

**1. Request an envelope export**

Ask the Chamelio team for an Excel export of all available DocuSign envelopes with metadata.

**2. Mark envelopes to import**

Add a column to the Excel file marking each envelope as `Yes` or `No` for import.

**3. Return the file**

Send the annotated Excel file back to Chamelio. Only marked envelopes will be imported.
